Why Pain is so Difficult to treat

Pain is a physical or mental suffering or discomfort caused by illness or injury. It is also a significant health problem. It is a key factor affecting quality of life and wellbeing and its management is now considered as the fifth vital sign.

Pain management is always a challenge. To start with, pain measurement isn’t objective. There are several kinds of pain and in many cases it is difficult for the patient to communicate how he or she feels to the doctor. Feeling pain can be physical, but also emotional, and the answers to how to best manage the problem are not always self-evident.

Acute pain can limit patient's movement or actions, and if not treated, it may become chronic and prolonged. Chronic pain may generate psychological problems difficult to handle by both patient and the doctor.

A holistic approach to pain management

To overcome those challenges, Keralty Pain Center applies a holistic and multidisciplinary approach to pain management. Following this path on a program where the patient is an active participant, we are able to successfully manage most pain problems.
